It is believed that Lord Shiva/Kedareshwar in Kedarnath, appeared here as Linga, hence the name Kedareshwar Mahadev. Located in the southern part of Varanasi city, this temple is considered to be as pious as Kedarnath of Himalayas. The facade of the temple is distinguished by its vertical yellow and red stripes at the top of an impressive ghat. The temple is more popular among locals than the outside devotees. Taking bath in River Ganges on every Monday and performing puja at Kedareshwar is supposed to be very auspicious.
